A study of the thought and culture of the Italian and Northern Renaissance, including the Reformation. Attention will be paid to developments in visual art, and readings will include humanists and reformers like Erasmus and Luther, philosophers like Machiavelli and Descartes, and poets and dramatists like Shakespeare and Milton.
